Ben Vrackie stands tall behind Pitlochry and is a popular hill walk for those visiting the town. It gives a lovely view south out over the town into the lovely Perthshire countryside. This is our first chance to get out into the hills proper, and if you've not been before, you'll get to see and feel why it is such a joy to be outdoors in the Scottish wilderness.
We'll have more in-depth discussion of understanding the fundamentals of hill walking including what to wear and what to carry to make sure you are always prepared for any eventuality as well as how to walk on uneven terrain. There will also be a chance to see how a map and compass work.
This will be our first mountain, although just shy of the magical Munro height of 914m, Ben Vrackie is not to be underestimated, effort will be required to summit and take in its amazing views, so be ready! It's a great introduction to real highland walking
The day will last around 6 hours.

Now is where things get a wee bit more challenging. You are about to tackle your first multi-Munro ( although you may have done at least one more in training), it's time for a multi-summit walk.
Beinn a'Ghlo is a fantastic massif of some 22 km including over 1,200m of ascent. It's a mini mountain range all in itself with three separate peaks, all Munros. It has a relatively high start\finish point of around 340m at the car park at Loch Moraig and the going is mainly on good paths, although there are areas of wet, boggy ground.
Group fitness may determine whether two or three of the Munro summits can be achieved in our day but our initial goal will be all three.
It will take between 7 and 9 hours to complete all three Munros.

This one is over to you. Following a discussion with Challenge P.T. Allan, pick any walk in the recommended level from wayymarkoutdoor to be taken prior to mid June 2021 as final prep for the main event.

At last - the big day. It will be a truly memorable experience of seeing the sunrise from the highest point in the UK on the longest day of 2021.
This is a magnificent walk, a real achievement, as we will ascend the mountain track in darkness by torchlight. We will carefully ascend at a slow pace, it is in the dark after all, aiming to be on the summit by 0400, to await the sunrise at about 0430. We will celebrate the solstice with a wee dram of Malt Whisky or a mug of hot chocolate. Please note that the weather conditions are outwith our control and in the event of low cloud or other poor visibility, seeing the sunrise may not be possible.
Congratulations! You've now climbed Britain's highest peak and in the dark, well done. What's your next challenge?
